Welcome to Nichiren Shu Malaysia
Who We Are
We are a global Buddhist community rooted in the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and the Lotus Sutra, as revived by Nichiren ShĹŤnin. Our practice is simple: to awaken our inherent Buddha-nature through recitation and chanting Namu Myoho Renge Kyo, and to live with compassion in daily life.
Whether you are new to Buddhism or have practiced for years, you are welcome here.
What We Believe
Shakyamuni Buddha
We revere Shakyamuni Buddha as the Eternal Buddha — not a distant figure, but the ever-present teacher of all beings.
“The one great cause for the Buddha’s appearance in this world is to open the door of Buddha-wisdom to all beings, to show it, to awaken them to it, and to lead them to enter this path.” — Shakyamuni Buddha declared in the Lotus Sutra’s scripture.
The Lotus Sutra
After attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, Shakyamuni Buddha spent over 40 years guiding people according to their capacities. But in the final eight years of his life, he revealed his ultimate and complete teaching — the Lotus Sutra (Sanskrit: Saddharma Pundarīka Sūtra).
We uphold the Lotus Sutra as the Buddha’s ultimate teaching — the path by which all people can awaken to Buddhahood.
Nichiren Shu Tradition
In the 13th century, the great sage Nichiren Shōnin (1222-1282) dedicated his life to reviving the true spirit of Shakyamuni Buddha’s Lotus Sutra. He saw that the essential practice for this age is faith in the Lotus Sutra, expressed through chanting its title - Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.
Nichiren Shu is a traditional, orthodox Mahayana Buddhist school that upholds:
Shakyamuni Buddha as our fundamental teacher and the Eternal Buddha of the Lotus Sutra.
The Lotus Sutra as the supreme teaching for all people in this modern age.
We practice as Shakyamuni Buddha intended - with reverence for the Buddha, the Dharma (his teaching), and the Sangha (the community) - all centered on the Lotus Sutra.
